Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam has declared a day of mourning and ordered flags at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Saturday, Jan. 25 in honor of Staff Sergeant Daniel Tyler Lee ultimate sacrifice. Lee was assigned to Company C, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group, out of Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He was fatally shot while on patrol in the vicinity of Wazghar Parwan Province, Afghanistan on January 15.

Former Tennessee Governor Ned McWherter being remembered as a true statesman who was dedicated to education.
McWherter died Monday afternoon in a Nashville hospital where he was being treated for cancer.
A child of sharecroppers, McWherter became a millionaire through various business ventures.
He went on to serve two terms as governor from 1987 to 1995. He was also an advisor to President Bill Clinton.
As governor, he supported education improvements. He advocated putting more computers and technology in classrooms. He also increased teacher's pay, shrank class sizes and gave local school boards more control.
Current Governor Bill Haslam has ordered flags at state office buildings to be flown at half staff in honor of the former governor.
Ned McWherter was 80.
